Thomas is a GP Partner in South London and a GP with a Specialist Interest in Urology at The Royal Marsden Hospital, London. He combines expertise from; Specialist Urological Training, Academic Research, General Practice and lived experience of chronic illness to provide holistic, patient-centred care.
Thomas’s interest in chronic urinary tract infection began during his undergraduate medical training, when he undertook research under the supervision of Professor James Malone-Lee. His work investigated novel biomarkers for chronic urinary tract infection and bladder overactivity, providing a rare and exciting opportunity to participate in translational research that bridged laboratory science and patient care. By working closely with patients and analysing urine samples, he gained first-hand insight into the challenges faced by those living with chronic urinary symptoms and became fascinated by Professor Malone-Lee’s pioneering work. This early experience inspired him to pursue a career in Urology and established a lasting commitment to improving the care of patients with chronic urinary tract conditions.
Thomas subsequently undertook specialist surgical training in Urology as a Registrar based in Cambridge & London, gaining extensive experience in the assessment and management of complex urological conditions. During his training, he developed a particular interest in lower urinary tract symptoms, recurrent urinary tract infections and the profound impact these conditions can have on quality of life.
His career took an unexpected turn when he developed a work-related repetitive strain injury that prevented him from continuing a surgical career. He subsequently retrained as a General Practitioner, enabling him to combine specialist Urological expertise with a broader understanding of whole-person care. Having personally experienced the impact of a disabling health condition, Thomas brings a unique perspective to patient care. His own health journey has provided valuable insight into the physical, psychological and social challenges faced by those living with long-term illness.
Thomas also holds a Master’s degree in Health Economics, Policy and Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). This has strengthened his understanding of the wider factors that influence health, healthcare delivery and patient outcomes, further enhancing his holistic approach to care.
He has published research in chronic urinary tract infection and has lectured regionally and nationally on urological health. Thomas is passionate about advancing understanding of chronic urinary conditions and translating emerging evidence into meaningful improvements in patient care.
Thomas also works as an independent match-day doctor for English Premiership Rugby, where he enjoys the challenges of working within a high-performance sporting environment
