Dr Sheela Swamy (Clinical Lead)

PhD, MRCOG, MBBS

Sheela is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust. She did her undergraduate medical training from Bangalore Medical College in India. Sheela moved to the UK, completed her Postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from London Deanery and a PhD in the Division of Medicine at University College London under the late Professor Malone-Lee.

Sheela brings a wealth of experience and a global perspective to the Clinic. She has travelled and lectured nationally and internationally. She is a valuable member of our multidisciplinary team as she has knowledge and skills in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Urogynaecology and Rapid access diagnostic Gynae oncology. She has a special focus on females with chronic bladder pain and chronic and recurrent UTIs.

Sheela recognises that each patient and their family’s journey is unique. She strongly believes and practices by William Osler’s (1849–1919) dictum: ‘listen to your patient, he is telling you the diagnosis’. She is passionate about shared care. She is empathetic and extremely patient, gentle and approachable. She prides herself on ethical and compassionate individualised care. Her approach has allowed her to build a network of respectful collaborations and relationships within and outside the country, this plays a crucial role in delivering outstanding care to women.
